HOLIDAY
Holiday brings delights to the
students, because holidays provide them recreation and rest. A vacation
generally comes after numerous days of toil and hard work. So it is no wonder
when a school boy expresses joy when a holiday arrives. All students eagerly
wait for holidays. Holidays remove the seriousness of study and examination
from the tender minds of the students. They fleet the time in a light vein.
Generally they pass their time in
visiting their friends, in reading stories and other light books, in visiting
cinema, theatre and circus and also in visiting the places of their choice.
Such activities enhance their spirit for fresh study. Therefore, holidays are
very important. Some students who have earlier neglected their studies try to
utilise holidays to make up arrears in their studies.
Holidays are of different types.
Sunday is a regular holiday after six days of work. There are other holidays
such as Independence Day, Republic Day, and so on. Holi and Diwali are festive
holidays. Dussehra, Christmas and Summer Vacation are long holidays. These long
holidays are meant for revision of lessons rather than for joy and merriment.
Holidays provide leisure for average
students. But weak students devote a maximum part of holidays to study. They do
their school tasks as well as home works. Students who are sincere in their
studies may engage themselves in developing their hobbies. They may play games,
may collect rare photographs or may play on musical instruments. Very often we
celebrate marriages in our families.
In case of deaths in family, study
is also hampered. In that case long vacation is a golden chance for the
students make up the loss of time and study. Some students utilise their holidays
by attending service camps. Students from farmer's family extend their help to
their parents in agricultural work. This is the best use of holidays for them.
Some girl students attend dance and music classes in long vacations.
Vacations are essential for
students. However, students should not waste their holidays in sleeping,
reading cheap novels, in gossiping and other fruitless works. They must
remember that they will face examination after vacation.
MY
HOBBY
Routine work of every day makes us
monotonous. To break it we often look for interesting and exciting things to
do. Hobbies are the best way to divert attention side by side with work. We
need entertainment from time to time.
At such times a good hobby is very
useful. Hobbies provide recreation. They entertain us and at the same time are
valuable in the sense that they develop personality. My hobby is singing.
People often resort to gardening, reading, stamp collecting, bird watching,
etc. However I love to listen to music and also to sing. I have a large
collection of tapes and I listen to all kinds of music.
My collection ranges from classical
music to Rock and from Indian music to Western one. My hobby is to listen to
these songs carefully and then to learn them. I sit with a paper and a pen and
write down the lyrics of the songs that I hear.
Then I hum along and soon I know the
tunes too. I switch the tape recorder off and then I pretend to be the singer
myself. I sing the song exactly the way it was sung by the playback singer. I
succeed at times and sometimes fail Once I feel that I have begun to sing
perfectly I tape my own voice. When I listen to the recording I listen
objectively and try to locate my faults in singing. This helps me to improve on
my singing and I find that also helps me to use my talent to advantage.
Whenever I go to a party, my friends
persuade me to dance and singing. Once I begin, the party livens up, people
join in and the place is filled with the sound of music. I feel proud of myself
and my friend also praise me because they feel that I become the life of the
party. I play the guitar and sing when we go on a picnic or when I have a free
period in school. My hobby makes me happy and also brings joy to all my
relatives and friends.
It is necessary that everybody must
have some hobby. It educates man, gives him pleasure, and helps him to utilize
his free time fruitfully. If a person has no hobby, his spare time will turn
him into a useless, irritated and restless person. "An idle mind is a
devil's workshop". It is, therefore, essential to remain busy even in
leisure hours. Hobbies always come to one's help.
MY
HOBBY
A hobby is some task that keeps us
busy and also entertained when we are free from our routine works. This is also
something that keeps us and makes us aware of our inner desires, talents and
capacities. Our hobbies are usually somethings that we as individuals like to
do besides our daily chores. Hobbies are thus of many different kinds, each
person having a hobby that caters to his/her likes, talents and innate desires.
This is why there are many kinds of
hobbies like reading, playing, socialising, gardening, stamp collection, and
the list goes on. No one has all these hobbies but we all have one or the other
of these which we enjoy doing in our free time. For every individual it is very
necessary to develop some hobby so that at free or lonely times, he can keep
himself busy. Since our hobbies fit into the frame of our likes and aptitudes,
we are always happy when we are involved in working of hobbies.
For instance, a person who is good
in drawing can develop the hobby of drawing and all that is akin to drawing,
like painting, making cartoons or the like. A person who is fond of reading can
develop the habit of reading the works of different writers. In reality,
hobbies can be said to be our best companions, who are guided only by
ourselves. As far as my hobby is concerned, my hobby is stamp collection, and
collection of old coins of India and the world. This hobby of mine has
developed through the span of the last three years, ever since I was in the fourth
standard. This has started ever since I started studying the subject of
History.
This subject fascinated me and I
loved to read about rulers and their different systems. This love for History
was enhanced when I was in the fourth standard, my uncle who is settled in
America, and widely travelled through many other European countries, came to
India. When he came three years back, he brought a lot of American and other
European countries' coins.
This hobby gives me an incentive to
study the otherwise very boring subject of History. I now love to study
specially the ancient civilizations of the world, and see how their Governments
worked. This in turn gives me a deep insight into the growth and developments
of various civilizations of the world. This hobby of mine has given as if, a
new dimension to my study of History. If I cannot get any coins, then, I try to
find pictures of them from books, and draw them in my scrap book, to keep
record. This hobby has enlightened me to the fact that it is our forefathers
who really did the spade work of development, and we are building upon it. This
hobby keeps me busy in my free time and, I also get a sea of knowledge about
the past and the growth of civilizations.
Why
is Education Important?
When
I started thinking about why education is so important, I remembered my school
years, the grounding years of anyone's education. I went down memory lane, I
remembered my teachers, my school subjects, the study and the fun! I never
really hated school. But I have seen many who hate going to school. I have had
some friends who did not like the idea of studying in classrooms. Many of you
must have unwillingly entered your school gates. But you know, this dislike
never lasts long. We soon start loving school and it is when it's time to leave
school that we are in tears. Our school which lays the foundation of our
education, is the institution where we understand why education is so important
and how important it is. It is our school, where we learn to read and write and
we become literate. It is where young talents and recognized, nurtured and
encouraged. On leaving school, we are all set to soar high in life and enter
the real world in pursuit of our dreams.
The
first thing that strikes me about education is knowledge gain. Education gives
us knowledge of the world around us. It develops in us a perspective of looking
at life. It helps us build opinions and have points of view on things in life.
People debate over the subject of whether education is the only thing that
gives knowledge. Some say, education is the process of gaining information
about the surrounding world while knowledge is something very different. They
are right. But then, information cannot be converted into knowledge without the
catalyst called education. Education makes us capable of interpreting things
rightly. It is not just about lessons in textbooks. It is about the lessons of
life.
The
words 'cultivate' and 'civilize' are synonymous with 'educate'. That says it
all! Education is important as it teaches us the right behavior and good
manners thus making us civilized. It teaches us how to lead life. It is the
basis of culture and civilization. It is instrumental in the development of our
values and virtues. Education cultivates us into mature individuals,
individuals capable of planning for our future and taking the right decisions
in life. It gives us an insight into our lives and teaches us to learn from
experience. The future of a nation is safe in the hands of educated
individuals. Education is important for the economic growth of a nation. It
fosters principles of equality and socialism. It forms a support system for
individuals to excel in life. It is the backbone of society.
Education
is important because it equips us with all that is needed to make our dreams
come true. It opens doors to brilliant career opportunities. It fetches better
prospects in career and growth. Every employer today requires his prospective
employees to be well-educated. He requires expertise. So, education becomes an
eligibility criterion for employment in any sector of the industry. We are
rewarded for exercising the expertise required for the field we venture. We are
weighed in the market on the basis of our educational skills and how well we
can apply them.
Well, schools, colleges and other such
educational institutes define the basic framework of education. Schooling gives
us the fundamentals while we specialize in fields of our interest during degree
courses. But education does not end here. It is a lifelong process.
Self-learning begins at a point where institutional education ends. The process
of self-learning continues.
Writing
Well
Writing well is not only an opinion
for teenagers but it’s a necessity too. Along with reading comprehension,
writing skill is a predictor of academic success and fundamental prerequisite
for participation in civic life and in then global economy. Lack of suitable
writing skills has resulted in schools drop out by teenagers who don’t meet the
basic levels required by most colleges or employees.
Writing which can also be used as a
tool of wring can work more efficient if elements or else the writing skills
are properly used. I have acquired several writing strategies which comprise of
different stratagem like planning, revising, as well as editing of my essay.
Other techniques that I have acquired include the proper summarization of my
work, proper combination of sentences, prewriting of my work to get well
organized ideas, set specific goals on what I’m writing about, collaborative
writing where we revise our work with other apprentices and sharing ideas as
well as getting equerries from the staff are some of fundamental skills that I
have acquired resulting to improvement of my reading and writing.
Though I have acquired some writing
skills, there are still other challenges that one get in writing different kind
of essays. For instance, a persuasive essay aims to influence the audience
agree with the authors assertions and therefore it was a challenge to me as I
didn’t know on what to write to make people agree with my opinions. Coming up
with a debatable topic was a hectic thing as I required a topic which is of
interest knowledgeable to everyone in order to create a meaningful
argument. Taking a Position in the
essay, writing on objective and using evidence as well as Providing
Counterarguments are some of the challenges I got while writing my essay.
For one to improve in research and
writing a persuasive essay several strategies must be but into convenient. As
mentioned earlier, proper planning, revising, editing of my essay, proper
summarization of work, excellent combination of sentences, prewriting of my
work to get well organized ideas, set specific goals on what I’m writing about,
collaborative writing among other strategies
can help someone come up with a
quality essay. Other methods include having courage in one’s chosen topic where
at this point I can effectively choose a topic without much struggle.
Taking a position on the topic to
write about in an appropriate manner is no longer chaotic since I have to be
specific on the stand as my position in the thesis should be well expressed and
come up with topics which are not much general like abortion is bad or else
that of smoking kills millions of people in a given year and come up with
better debatable topics which would make my persuasive essay perfect
